Scientia potentia est.

The world is changing with the evolution of knowledge. Scholars and researchers from all around the globe put their effort into making innovative changes and delivering impacts on this world. Moreover, these scholars and their research progress lead to the evolution of knowledge that has become an essential part of world history. That is why people think that scholars could be one great perspective of looking at the trends, phenomena, and changes in history.

By building a data analysis and visualization tool, people can now take a macroscopical view of a topic and its popularity even in a specific range of observation attributes, such as time, location, and subcategories. Besides, by creating a corpus generator and an NLP analysis tool, users can take a microscopical observation from the content of the academic publications. These two powerful tools as a bundle are named Knowledge Globe (abbreviated as “KnoGlo”) because they are powered by a database that contains scholarly data from all around the world.

Knowledge Globe is a series of tools that can achieve the goal mentioned above. It contains two major parts - a statistical data visualization tool; and a corpus generator along with an NLP analysis tool.

The data visualization tool allows users to analyze and visualize statistical metadata of online publications from Springer Nature, a global scientific publisher of books and journals, in order to show the number of documents that were published under specific ranges of observations, which can be understood as filters, includes subjects, keyword tags, country, publisher, year, and publication type. By looking at those statistics, users can see the popularities of scientific topics from multiple observation perspectives, like what gains more attention in a specific range of time or space.

The corpus generator & NLP tool allows users to create a corpus of the titles and abstracts of the populations with selected filters and help them take an in-depth look at the contents from their corpus by using NLP research techniques, including Topic Modeling.

What can KnoGlo answer?

KnoGlo will give you a statistical result about a topic that you are interested in within a range of place (country) and/or time (years).

For example,

Where are the data come from?

Standing on the shoulder of giants.

Our tool can gather information from Springer Nature, which is one of the world’s leading scholarly databases.

The database is open to the public so that everyone can get benefit from it. Springer Nature offers its own API, Springer Nature API, that allows developers to access both the metadata and the contents of the publication.

Powered by Springer Nature Metadata API, which provides metadata for academic and professional publications, we could access 12 million online documents, including journal articles, book chapters, and protocols.

Using KnoGlo with the help of Springer Nature’s massive database, we could analyze the statistical information about how many articles were published in selected topics and time ranges.
